regional identity

Burges and Swanswell park among ten areas where paedophiles are feared to be targeting young children.

this title represents the area in a very negative way as the areas are restricted to mainly parks which are paces where children should be safe to actually pose more of a risk as a result of this area being targeted by paedophiles. the language used in this is used to scare and shock the reader as words such as 'fear' and 'targeted' are used to show a lack of control over the subject and also the children involved are more venerable as they are stated as 'young' children in this article to further increase the level of paranoia as a result of the children being young and much less able to defend themselves from a potential threat.

the entire text

as this document focuses on the risk to children it the preferred reading would be the parents of children who live in the area to prevent them form coming to any harm and setting the representation of that area as negative it also suggests that the police are not involving themselves much unless something major happens, as the following text shows:
A public space protection order (PSPO) is to be introduced at Edgwick Park to allow police to disrupt suspected paedophiles by breaking up groups of two or more people. That followed reports that two young girls had been raped after meeting older men at the park.
the text used in this is to provide a means of relief as it states that groups of two or more can be broken up however this is all it states suggesting that the issue cannot be directly dealt with as the people involved with the trigger incident were in a group greater than one person. a PSPO is also to have been sent as this document states, however that has yet to happen suggesting that the park is not safe  causing fear within that parents, the requirement of a PSPO is also gives a negative image of the park as it is shows that it is not safe to be unless one is present.

the document further supports that nothing significant is being done as "At Swanswell Park in the day you could walk past a prostitute, a pimp and a drug dealer while there are kids playing in the park. It’s not exactly hidden." a reporter claims to counter the methods being used to give security to the reader, the reason for this is that the quote shows that all of this occurs during the day suggestiong that illegal activities are not challenged by the police and all of this occurs in the presence of children to further increase the insecurities of the reader and show that claims to improve the safety of the area have not been carried out. furthermore this quote also shows the level of crime that is being committed in the presence of children by stating that all of this could happen in the space of a single day within walking distance

previously targeted a youth club.
“It’s not just parks, it’s clubs and bars. A while ago there was a group of men targeting a youth club in Hillfields.”
"At Swanswell Park in the day you could walk past a prostitute, a pimp and a drug dealer while there are kids playing in the park. It’s not exactly hidden."
“I think the Edgwick Park order is a trial to see how they work.”
